Milford, CT at a Glance
An important port city in the early days of the American colonies, Milford has
developed into a coastal resort, complete with numerous accommodations and miles
of sandy beaches. Silver
Springs State Park offers swimming and fishing, as well as wildlife watching
in its tidal marshes, and the Connecticut
Audubon Coastal Center, a 9-acre (4-ha) sanctuary and wildlife refuge, offers
educational exhibits. Just off the coast is Charles Island, where it is rumored
that Captain Kidd, the 17th century pirate, hid his treasure. The annual Oyster
Festival is the cultural highlight of the year, bringing in thousands of people
for a day of arts, crafts, performers and, of course, fresh seafood in August
each year. During the summer months, Great
River Golf Club offers a great excuse to wander the fairways. After touring
the town, visitors enjoy dining at Milford's restaurants, some specializing in
locally caught seafood, particularly New England's famous lobster.
