Charles Island + My Favorites
This 14 acre island is situated just off the Silver Sands State Park. It is reachable from the beach at Milford by way of a tombolo (a raised sand bar) during low tide. The island was first discovered by Europeans in 1614, but had been inhabited by indigenous groups centuries before that. Overtime, it has been used as a summer resort, fish fertilizer operations, and a Dominican retreat, the remains of which are still on the island.
